Jordan Henderson handed major injury boost ahead of England's final Euro 2020 warm-up friendly

The Sunderland-born midfielder was set to appear in the midweek win over Austria, it what would have been the Liverpool skipper’s first appearance for club or country since undergoing groin surgery in February.

But he missed out after complaining of discomfort on the morning of the match.

However, Henderson trained with the England squad on Saturday and is likely to be involved against Romania at the Riverside Stadium on Sunday evening.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Gareth Southgate said that the last few days had been ‘positive’ for the Sunderland academy graduate.

Meanwhile, the Press Association report that Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka did not train with the main group, with the Football Association saying they were “following a personal training programme indoors to manage load”.

Harry Maguire was also following a similar programme on Saturday.
