Jon McLaughlin reveals what proved 'difficult' for him at Sunderland before his Rangers switch

The 32-year-old swapped the Stadium of Light for Ibrox last week having turned down the offer of a new contract on Wearside.

And having signed a two-year deal with the Scottish giants, McLaughlin is hoping to be handed further opportunities within the national set-up.

While he is a regular in the Scotland squad, the stopper only has two caps to his name – but believes playing in England was to his detriment.

“I hope that it certainly helps that situation,” said McLaughlin, speaking to Rangers TV.

“It has been slightly difficult with the league situation down in England and hopefully this can further my reputation and help in-terms of how it is viewed by Steve Clarke and the Scotland setup.”

“Hopefully I can bring my experience,” he added, when quizzed on his ambitions for his time at Rangers.

“The age I am at now, the number of games I have played, the level I have played at and the clubs I have played for have all helped me to become the goalkeeper that I am.

“I am still very hungry and feel that I am in a good position in my career. I still have a lot to give and a lot to offer, and hopefully, I can just come and help to improve the overall standard of the squad.”
