With a convincing majority having voted for the season to be ended, many owners and managers were pleased with the outcome.
But as ever, there was an unhappy majority - who were quick to hit out at the EFL and, indeed, fellow third tier sides.
Scroll down to see how some League One clubs reacted to the decision:
1. Accrington Stanley
Stanley were in favour of curtailing the season, and welcomed the clarity the decision has brought. Owner Andy Holt said: “We needed the certainty so now we can start to rebuild the club for next season. I will say that I do not want to play behind-closed-doors games. For me, football is about the community and fans and I do not want to watch a game where there aren't any fans.” Photo: Stuart C. Wilson
2. Bolton Wanderers
In a brief statement issued after the EFL decision, Bolton said they ‘acknowledged’ the curtailment of the campaign. It read: “Bolton Wanderers Football Club acknowledges the statement issued by the EFL in reference to the curtailment of the Sky Bet League One campaign and that this results in the Club being relegated to League Two. The Club will issue a detailed response in the coming days” Photo: Gareth Copley
3. Bristol Rovers
The Gas were initially in favour of completing the season, but claimed the ‘daunting’ costs of doing so caused them to vote for curtailment. CEO Martyn Starnes said: “It had become increasingly evident to us that fulfilling the fixture programme was going to be extremely difficult to achieve.” Photo: Alex Davidson
4. Coventry City
Crowned champions after the decision was made, Coventry were naturally delighted. Manager Mark Robins told talkSPORT: “Nobody can diminish this promotion. We deserve it and, in fairness to everyone else, I’ve never heard anyone say other than that - that Coventry deserve to have been promoted this year. Photo: Lewis Storey
