'He'll be a super star!': Sunderland fans hail Leeds and Newcastle-linked youngster after pre-season display

The teenager played the final half an hour of the clash at the Stadium of Light and was unlucky not to find himself on the scoresheet.

And Sunderland fans have backed the midfielder- who has been linked with Leeds United and Newcastle – to make a mark on the first-team squad.

On Twitter, @brettd1981 said: “Neil has impressed me, he should have had 2 goals but he has made some good runs to get in them positions”

@RokerRookie posted: “Happy for Wyke to get his goals. Neil has been very good. Maguire, Gooch, Diamond, Grigg, Hume, Feeney, Scowen all did well. Still a lot of work to do but promising from Sunderland”@si_williamson added: “Dan Neil looks like he could be a useful player, made a few good runs from deep”

@KieWetherall_ commented: “The main positives I took from that game were Maguire, Neil, Wyke, Scowen, Hume and Dobson. The score doesn't really reflect the match too much as I though we were quite poor until the subs came on. Once the changes were made we looked much better and controlled the game”
