The defender, who signed on loan from Wolves in the summer, is set to stay at the Stadium of Light until the end of the current campaign.

But weekend reports suggested that Championship side Cardiff City had asked for the loan to be cut-short so the 21-year-old could head to South Wales on loan.

And we asked fans whether they would like to see the Wolves youngster given more of an opportunity in the first-team fold in the coming weeks, after Sanderson dropped to the bench for the weekend win at AFC Wimbledon.

The verdict was mixed, but many were keen to see the versatile defender given an opportunity somewhere across the back four. Here’s what was said by supporters on social media:

On Twitter, @kevindefty1 said: “Wolves play a back three I think, that was part of the thinking when he came to us. Now we are back 4 game time will be limited and he is ineligible for pizza cup. FB is his best option especially when Flanagan back. I can see him being recalled and loaned to the championship”

@Tom01Crangle added: “He's miles better full back than Power and a threat at set pieces get him in”

But @johne112 argued: “No. Like every player, he has to earn it.”

@w24holden commented: “He is getting game time with us atm. Not every minute but he is featuring none the less. For a young lad it’s also good experience to come on in games and to be in and out of the starting line ups as much as it is to start games.”

@longstaff_ray tweeted: “Yes play him at LB”

Meanwhile on Facebook, Casper Gibbons posted: “Yes he should he’s a canny player”

Michael Napier added: “Yes play him right back with Willis & Wright in the centre”

But John Briggs asked: “in which position?”
