Gooooood afternoon!

And welcome to our Sunderland AFC live blog!

It’s a big game for the Black Cats this evening as they welcome fellow promotion hopefuls Hull City to the Stadium of Light.

Lee Johnson will be looking to see a response after the frustrating draw at Northampton last week, and is also targeting a first win on home soil.

We’ll be bringing you live updates, analysis, insight and more from the game this evening - so stick with us!

A hint about who could be involved today...

Lee Johnson has been praising Elliot Embleton - and hinted that he could be in-line for an opportunity this evening…

What’s the latest team news ahead of tonight’s game?

We take a look at the latest from both camps ahead of the game…

SUNDERLAND

The Black Cats will welcome back Callum McFadzean after he missed the draw at Northampton Town last week.

But Lee Johnson is sweating on the availability of an unnamed player after they picked up an illness.

Will Grigg will miss the game as he looks set for a three-week spell on the sidelines, while Denver Hume and Luke O’Nien are nearing returns - but this fixture will come too soon.

HULL CITY

Grant McCann will be without centre-back Jordy de Wijs and winger Martin Samuelsen for tonight’s game.

The Hull boss could also be without Keane Lewis-Potter, the prodigious forward who has made a major impression so far this season.

The Tigers were also hopeful of welcoming back five players who missed their last game due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

The view from the Hull City camp

Former Sunderland skipper George Honeyman - who is set to line-up for Hull City this evening - is targeting the start of another winning run:

If you want to get promoted automatically you need to go on winning runs, that’s obvious.  We want to go on a run like we did at the start of the season and cement our place in the top two in the division

George Honeyman

How can I watch tonight’s game?

Tonight’s fixture will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Football - and will also be accessible via NowTV.

“However, season card holders that previously activated their unique code to view all games played behind closed doors will still be able to watch the action on safc.com.”

A Sunderland transfer ‘target’ has spoken out

St Johnstone full-back Scott Tanser has been linked with a winter move to the Stadium of Light - but says the interest is ‘just speculation’.

Speaking to The Herald, he said: "There has been an offer [of a new contract from St Johnstone] but there is nothing to say at this point. If there is interest [from elsewhere], it’s a reward for the performances I’ve been putting in. But other than that it’s just speculation.

“I’ve not heard anything. I’m happy in Scotland and I’ve not even thought about moving. I’m just thinking about playing."

Sky Sports are in the house

Tonight’s game will be broadcast by the EFL’s broadcast partner - and you can certainly tell they’re here!

From the broadcast trucks outside the stadium to the scaffolding inside it, it’s certainly a different look to the Stadium of Light.

And the broadcasters have already grabbed a word with Charlie Wyke, too.

CONFIRMED: THE TEAM NEWS IS IN

And Sunderland have made just ONE change from the side who drew at Northampton Town.

Out goes Tom Flanagan, with Callum McFadzean taking his place. Flanagan and Jordan Willis aren’t in the squad at all.

Here’s the starting line-up in full: Burge; McLaughlin, Wright, Sanderson, McFadzean; Power, Scowen, Leadbitter; Diamond, McGeady, Wyke

And on the bench: Matthews, Maguire, O’Brien, Gooch, Embleton, Graham, Younger
