And despite some impressive displays, Asomugha did not earn an extended stay on Wearside.

Hide AdWhen quizzed on Asomugha at the time, under-23 boss Elliott Dickman said: “If we see something we like, it’s something we can consider.
“We need to sit down as a staff, look at exactly who will be around next season, whose under contract and what we want to do,
“The lads at the minute, their names are on the table and we just need to have a good, really deep conversation to give them the respect for coming up and giving their all.”
But now the winger has a chance to join one of Sunderland’s League One rivals having joined Charlton Athletic on trial.

Hide AdThe 19-year-old was named in the Addicks’ under-23 squad for their trip to Watford on Monday afternoon having been handed a chance to impress at The Valley.
Charlton have been looking at a number of trialists this summer – both senior and more youthful – including former Sunderland defender Joel Lynch.
Lynch left the Addicks without a deal, but could yet re-emerge as a target for Lee Bowyer as he looks to add some additional depth to his squad following the completion of Thomas Sandgaard’s takeover of the club late last week.
