Ex-Sunderland striker set to extend stay with Championship side after starring role

Neil Warnock has revealed Middlesbrough hope to sit down with Duncan Watmore’s representatives before the end of the week to discuss a new deal.

The former Sunderland forward has impressed since joining Boro initially on a short-term deal.

Watmore, who left Wearside in the summer, joined Boro on a short-term contract until mid-January and has scored four goals in six appearances since moving to Teesside.

Two of those came in Boro’s 3-0 win over Millwall at the Riverside.

And now the Boro boss has confirmed the club is aiming to sit down over the coming days.

Warnock said: "I said to him before the game at Preston, ‘Look, don’t worry, there’ll be a contract for you now son’.

"He was pleased, but we’ve just been so busy – it makes it hard to get things done.

"I spoke to him briefly again yesterday, and I’m sure we’ll be getting together with his agents in the next few days.”
