The former Black Cats captain has been linked with a move to League One rivals Ipswich, managed by Power’s ex-Wigan boss Paul Cook.

Former Town midfielder David Norris believes it would be a good fit.

“It’ll be very interesting to see where they go but your first port of call when you’re over 30 is probably your ex-managers,” Norris told Football League World.

“You start to get a little bit written off, people panic about the age with trying to convince owners to sign over 30s.

“Normally if you’re a manager and you know a player you go ‘well look, I’m taking that risk because I know he is a good pro, he doesn’t get injured, I know all about him and I know what he’s going to bring to the changing room.’

“So I won’t be surprised to see the older players coming away from big clubs, who still could do a job, going to ex-managers.”

Keane blanked for Celtic job

Elsewhere, former Sunderland and Ipswich boss Roy Keane was reportedly blanked for the Celtic job.

The Scotish giants wanted to appoint former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe at Celtic Park, yet talks have broken down.

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Keane wanted the job but was blanked by the SPL club.

Keane hasn’t been a first-team manager since leaving Ipswich in 2011 but has worked as an assistant at Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and with the Republic of Ireland national team.

Bristol City tracking striker

Finally, Bristol City are reportedly keeping an eye on striker Joe Pigott.

The 27-year-old, who scored 20 League One goals for Wimbledon this season, will be a free agent this summer when his contract expires.

According to Bristol Live, Pigott, who has also been linked with Sunderland, has been scouted by The Robins.

The report claims that Pigott could be a replacement for Famara Diedhiou, who has left Ashton Gate on a free transfer.
