Former Sunderland star Jordan Henderson is organising a 'Premier League coronavirus fund' in a bid to raise millions for NHS, it has been reported.

The Times report the Liverpool skipper has been contacting the captains of other Premier League clubs in recent days in a bid to get the idea off the ground.

There are plans to set up a fund in which top flight footballers would be asked to make a contribution, with an appreciation that there is a wide range in the salaries earned across the Premier League.

The idea has won praise on social media with fans praising Sunderland-born Henderson.

The England star came through the Black Cats’ youth academy before making his Premier League debut in 2008 before later earning a move to Liverpool.

The Times report: “Talks with Premier League captains were continuing today and the initial reaction has been wholly positive, with players determined to raise cash for those on the frontline.”
