It is the start of a new week in League One and the beginning of a new era with the introduction of the salary cap. The landscape has altered for clubs in the bottom two tiers of the English Football League. They are no vulnerable to predators from the Championship and even Premier League looking for bargain deals.
Of course, it affects the deal which can also be done. Sunderland have already made moves so far but what else can Phil Parkinson do between now and the start of the new season?

Rotherham United are nearing a deal for Dominic Samuel to become only their second summer recruit following promotion to the Championship. The striker was one of the players released by Blackburn Rovers at the end of the season and had been on the radar of Blackpool. (Lancashire Telegraph)
Leeds United have entered the race for “unbelievable” Oxford United centre-back Rob Dickie. The 24-year-old’s performances have attracted plenty of interest with Championship duo Norwich City and Nottingham Forest keen. Now Leeds United and Newcastle United have shown interest in someone who will cost “an awful lot of millions”. (Nottinghamshire Live)
Leeds United are set to announce the signing of Wigan Athletic starlet Joe Gelhardt this week, possibly today (Monday). A reported fee of around £1million with add ons has been agreed for the 18-year-old forward. (The Athletic)
Stoke City are the latest club to join the race for in-demand Wigan Athletic striker Kiefer Moore. It appeared Middlesbrough and Cardiff City were leading the race for the Wales star who could be available for as little as £1.8m. Others interested include Derby County, Millwall and QPR. (The Sun)
Wigan Athletic’s £10m full-back Antonee Robinson is wanted by Newcastle United. The youngster is expected to leave the Latics this summer after a move to AC Milan fell through in January which could have been worth the eight-figure fee. (Daily Mail)
A new development in the Sunderland takeover arose over the weekend with the club’s co-owner Juan Sartori keen to “find backers” which could lead to a change in share distribution at the club. Stewart Donald currently owns 74 per cent. (Alan Nixon)
Sunderland-linked Marcus Maddison has dropped a hint over his desire to return to the club. On social media he posted about “waiting on a phone call that never comes”. Despite coming through at Newcastle United, the ex-Peterborough United ace’s boyhood club is Sunderland.
Portsmouth have been hit with a transfer blow following the approval of the salary cap on clubs in League One. Kenny Jackett had been keen on ex-Celtic star Charlie Mulgrew, who is still contracted to Blackburn Rovers, but it appears to be unlikely after no progress was made on talks. (The News)
Doncaster Rovers are facing a battle to land former Ipswich Town winger Jordan Roberts. The 26-year-old is wanted by Scottish giants Heart of Midlothian as well as Gillingham, where he spent time on loan last season, Salford, and Scunthorpe. He is a free agent. (Daily Record)
