The Black Cats are searching for as many as five new arrivals during the winter trading period, with Parkinson set to make his mark on the squad after some disappointing resuls of late.

The 24-year-old has fallen out of favour at Feyenoord and is believed to be available for a move in January. Sunderland, Oxford United and MK Dons are all reportedly keen on Kelly, who only left Championship side Reading in the summer.

The young striker was reportedly scouted by the Black Cats earlier this year, with Scott having caught the eye with his performances for the Scottish top tier side. However, Premier League sides are also believed to monitoring the forward.
Sunderland were claimed to be interested in a loan deal for creative midfielder Garner, but his ascension into the first team picture at Manchester United may well see the Red Devils block a January exit.
The 15-year-old has been linked with Leeds, Derby, Celtic and Sunderland in recent months - with the latter two reportedly having submitted bids for his services in October. If he were to arrive on Wearside, it seems safe to say he would be a player destined for the academy rather than the first-team fold.
Linked in the summer, Sunderland have once again been credited with an interest in Shankland ahead of the January window. A reported £2million asking price may deter the Black Cats, though - while Celtic and Rangers are also believed to be keen.
The Azerbaijan international has previously spoken of his desire to move abroad, amid reported interested from Celtic and Sunderland. Talk of a move to Wearside for the central defender has quietened in recent weeks, though.

For Sunderland though, the interest was reportedly in securing a loan deal until the end of the season. Leeds, Newcastle and a host of top tier and Championship sides are also understood to be keen.
It wouldn't be a transfer window without Maddison being linked with the Stadium of Light, but he is extremely unlikely to make the move to Sunderland given his £2.5million release clause.
