Sunderland came from two goals down to win 3-2 at Gateshead in a pre-season friendly - with a mixture of first-team and academy players involved.
Despite a bright start, the Black Cats found themselves two goals behind after Connor Pani’s deflected effort and an excellent strike from Adam Campbell in the 23rd minute.
Dan Neil pulled a goal back for Sunderland before half-time, while second-half goals from Niall Huggins and substitute Michael Spellman turned the game around.
Here’s how each Sunderland player fared:

5. Joe Anderson - 6
Operated as a left-back for most of the match as Sunderland switched systems. Made a few important tackles including one in his own box. Overhit a few crossfield passes. 6 Photo: Jeremy Ng

6. Niall Huggins - 7
Switched between a central midfield and left wing-back role and adapted well. Was comfortable receiving the ball in tight areas and scored with a fine strike. 7 Photo: Frank Reid

7. Dan Neil - 8
Grew into the game and helped get Sunderland back on track with an equaliser before half-time. Operated in a deeper midfield position like last season but was still able to make a late run into the box to score. 8 Photo: Martin Swinney

8. Jobe Bellingham - 7
Played in an advanced midfield role and helped press from the front. Produced a few neat touches and passes but was sometimes crowded out in midfield. 7 Photo: SAFC
