AFC Wimbledon head coach Mark Robinson has revealed that his club have made an offer to try and sign the 23-year-old after a successful loan spell, but believes that they will be outbid by another club.

Dobson made 24 appearances at Wimbledon last season, a key part of their revival as they escaped relegation from the third tier.

That looks to have attracted other suitors for the midfielder, who Sunderland are willing to let go as they restructure their squad.

“We love George and we made him an offer,” Robinson told South London Press.

“But I’m not sure we’ll be able to meet what the player and the agent want.

“We have got quite a few things in the pipeline that I hope will come to fruition by the end of next week at the latest.

“There are four or five in the pipeline that are all quite close and we have got back-up options as well. I’m feeling more confident on quite a few of them but I enjoyed the relegation battle more than this [negotiating]."

Sunderland paid an undisclosed fee to sign Dobson from Walsall in the summer of 2019, and he went on to be a key player during Phil Parkinson’s first six months at the club.

Dobson was a regular alongside Max Power before the curtailment of the campaign, and saw his gametime reduce in the opening months of this season.

His gametime under Lee Johnson was minimal, leading to his loan departure.
