Sunderland want the season to be completed as it is the only way they can win promotion this season given they are currently outside the play-offs and would remain so on points-per-game, if that formula was to be used if the season was curtailed.

It remains the EFL priority to finish the season but their framework also clearly paved the way for third-tier clubs to reject a resumption, a 51% majority would be enough to settle the table on PPG.

Before such a vote can be held, the EFL’s framework must be approved.

To pass, it must be supported by a majority of clubs across all three divisions as well as a majority within the Championship.

A final vote is then expected to be held next Monday.
