The Black Cats head to St Andrew’s on Sunday in a televised League One fixture and, as part of their preparations for the clash, the Sky Blues were set to play a behind closed doors friendly.

Coventry Live report that first-teamers Jodi Jones, Jordi Hiwula, Josh Pask and Ryan Giles were all set to be involved as they aim to stake a claim for a place in Mark Robins’ starting line-up.

Robins, who claimed he turned down an approach from Sunderland earlier this season, explained the logic behind arranging a friendly before such an important clash in the promotion race.

“We’ve organised a behind-closed-doors to give them a run out,” he said.

“I just need them to get some practise in before Sunday’s game with Sunderland.”
