Sunderland were beaten 2-1 at Coventry in the Championship.

Despite a bright start, the Black Cats fell behind midway through the first half when Jamie Allen converted Viktor Gyokeres’ cutback.

Gyokeres eventually got on the scoresheet in the closing stages when he beat goalkeeper Anthony Patterson with a close-range finish, before Amad netted a late consolation goal in stoppage-time.

A let off for Sunderland after Amad gave the ball straight to Gyokeres who fired his effort over the bar.

Sunderland have just come under pressure in the last few minutes.

23’ Neil booked after Roberts penalty appeal

Excellent work from Roberts who beat a couple of Coventry players before advancing into the box.

The Sunderland player then went down in the box and appealed for a penalty, but noting was given.

Neil was then booked after stopping a Coventry counter attack.

Coventry lead after Gyokeres broke down the right and cut the ball back to Allen inside the box.

The latter converted with a first-time finish as the ball curled away from Patterson.

1-0.

That could have been two after Gyokeres charged forward into a shooting position but dragged his effort wide.

30’ Hume and Palmer clash

Hume and Palmer just came together on the touchline with both players shoving each other after a disagreement over a throw in.

Both got away without a booking.

34’ Mowbray not happy

Mowbray is complaining to the fourth official again after what looked like a foul on Roberts in the final third.

Nothing was given.

37’ Hamer fires over

Sunderland have looked exposed at the back too often after conceding possession and were almost caught out again there.

Amad lost the ball near the halfway line before the hosts attacked down the right.

Ballard headed away a cross but the ball fell to Hamer who volleyed the ball over.

Roberts is brought down again, as Palmer is shown a yellow card.

Batth then headed Clarke’s free-kick over the bar.

Gyokeres has been a real handful in this first half and almost got on the scoresheet there.

The striker cut inside of Ballard who managed to get a touch on the ball and send it behind for a corner.
