We’ll start with the Sunderland team news.

Mowbray is expected to make changes to his team following Tuesday’s defeat at Rotherham, with Patrick Roberts set to be recalled to the starting XI.

The Sunderland boss has said his squad are dealing with a few knocks after a midweek fixture but didn’t go into detail.

Lynden Gooch remains unavailable while he recovers from a hip flexor injury, while Ross Stewart, Corry Evans and Elliot Embleton have been sidelined with long-term setbacks.

Mowbray on injuries

Here’s what Mowbray said when asked for any injury updates during his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

“Yes, but not that I’m going to tell you about.

“There’s nothing new in terms of players coming back - we’ve just got a few that are carrying some knocks and niggles.

“That seems to be the case most weeks, and what do I know is that we’ll put what is hopefully a competitive team out at the weekend at Coventry to try and get three points.”

How Coventry are shaping up

Coventry are 11th in the Championship table, four points behind Sunderland with a game in hand, following back-to-back wins over Millwall and Rotherham.

To find out more we caught up with Mark Smith from SkyBlueFansTV on the latest episode of The Roar Podcast

Here’s what he said when asked about how the side will set up:

“We generally play with one up front with Viktor Gyokeres as the lone striker and normally play two number 10s.

“There may be a doubt on Ben Sheaf who has missed the last few games with a calf injury, but Josh Eccles has come in and done a really good job in midfield.

“We’ve added Luke McNally on loan from Burnley who will be part of a back three with McFadzean and Callum Doyle, and then two wing-backs who I expect to be Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Jake Bidwell.”

Robins on Sunderland

Here’s what Coventry boss Mark Robins had to say about Sunderland ahead of today’s match:

“They’re above us in the table and they’re not too far outside the top six,” said Robins when asked about Sunderland. “If we can get a result it lifts us closer to them, and then we’re a lot closer to those top six places ourselves.

“I think it is going to be a really good game of football. They have got a really young squad with very few players over the age of 30. They’re an incredibly talented group.

“They have improved during January by signing Joe Gelhardt but they also have Patrick Roberts and Amad Diallo, who has made a big difference. Daniel Ballard was also a very good signing.

“They play some really good football and it will be a good match. It will be tough for both games but a good game of football.”

Here are our predicted line-ups for today’s match:

Predicted Coventry XI: Wilson, Norton Cuffy, Doyle, McFadzean, McNally, Bidwell, Hamer, Eccles, Allen, Palmer, Gyokeres

Predicted Sunderland XI: Patterson, Hume, Ballard, Batth, Alese, Neil, Michut, Roberts, Amad, Clarke, Gelhardt

What to make of those sides

So it’s three changes for Sunderland from the side which started at Rotherham on Tuesday.

Trai Hume, Aji Alese and Patrick Roberts return to the starting XI, with Luke O’Nien and Alex Pritchard dropping to the bench.

Dennis Cirkin isn’t named in the squad, meaning Isaac Lihadji returns to the bench.

Coventry have named an unchanged side following their 2-0 win over Rotherham last weekend, with former Sunderland defender Callum Doyle starting for the hosts.
