The Black Cats stormed into a 2-0 lead over the high-flying Imps on Saturday afternoon, and the 20-year-old played a huge part for Lee Johnson's men.

Rewarded with a spot in the side after an impressive display in the 2-1 win over Oldham Athletic in midweek, the wide man showed plenty of attacking impetus in the opening exchanges, and won the penalty that gave his side the lead after a positive dart into the box.

Grant Leadbitter dispatched coolly, Charlie Wyke added a second, and then Diamond himself got on the score-sheet with his first senior strike for the Mackems.

Here are some of the best tweets from enamoured supporters:

@LiamSAFC16 tweeted: “Jack Diamond, class baller”.

@gabenoble12 tweeted: “Some boy Jack Diamond”.

@Philip_RJ_89 tweeted: “That’s what Jack Diamond gives us: pace and skill. Get him on the ball, and let him run at the opposition. Great penalty from Leadbitter as well.”

@hessy1988 tweeted: “What is this dark sorcery of Jack Diamond being direct and running at defenders? I don’t like it, go back to long aimless balls forward”.

@CrazyMackem23 tweeted: “Jack Diamond will be a huge player for us, Lincoln defence can’t cope with him”.

@JofraJones92 tweeted: “Parkiola must have been blind, deaf and dumb to not have realised that Diamond is exactly what this team needs. Pace, directness and skill!!!”
