The Black Cats will welcome Jake Buxton’s struggling side to the Stadium of Light on Tuesday evening (7pm kick-off) as they look to end a five-game winless run.

And Wyke says that while the manner of their recent results has been frustrating, the side must move on ahead of what looks to be a kind start to December.

"You work so hard and do all the scrappy bits in the game, to concede a rubbish goal against Doncaster and the one at Fleetwood,” he said.

"It's just frustrating, but we have to clear our minds and move onto the next game.”

Sunderland face two of the bottom three in their next set of fixtures, with both games coming on home soil.

It looks, on paper at least, to be the ideal chance for the Black Cats to get back to winning ways – but Wyke knows nothing can be taken for granted in a notoriously unpredictable division.

"They'll be a tough team,” admitted the Sunderland striker.

"They got a good result last Tuesday against Charlton. I know they've been struggling a bit, but we just need to take the positives from Fleetwood and go into Tuesday's game and try and get three points.

"You look at the fixtures now and they should be in our favour,” he continued.

"We've got two home games now and we're looking forward to it.”

Sunderland will, however, once again be without their home supporters.

While some EFL clubs will be able to welcome back up to 2,000 supporters in early December, Sunderland will continue playing their games behind closed doors until December 16 at the earliest.

And Wyke admits it is still a strange feeling playing in front of an empty Stadium of Light.

"It's strange really,” he added.

"We watch videos of games we've played before and there's fans in and it's strange. We do miss them and football is a lot better with fans.

"You need fans in football, but you just have to get on with it.”
