The Saudi Arabian-backed consortium, led by Amanda Staveley, formally withdrew its bid to buy the Magpies after growing impatience with the Premier League over a decision.

But as the mood on Tyneside falls significantly flat, Black Cats fans are showing no sympathy towards their fierce rivals.
