Sunderland were beaten 2-0 at Bradford in a pre-season friendly at Valley Parade.

Alex Neil made 11 changes to his side following Sunderland’s 2-0 win over Dundee United, with the head coach looking to give every member of his senior squad sufficient game time ahead of the new Championship campaign.

After a goalless first half, Emmanuel Osadebe put the hosts ahead after the interval.

The hosts then doubled their lead when Lynden Gooch brought down Jamie Walker and the attacking midfielder converted from the penalty spot.

Here’s how the match played out:

RECAP: Bradford City 2 (Osadebe, 51) (Walker, 75, pen) Sunderland 0

Another half chance for Bradford.

This time the hosts attacked down the left before the ball was played to Cook in a central position.

His low shot from distance was fired just wide.

A pause in play midway through the first half.

22’ Alese makes a block

Sunderland were caught in possession again there as Embleton was tackled inside his own half.

Cook then set up Walker, whose shot was blocked by Alese before going behind for a corner.

That is the best chance so far.

Bradford are regularly causing problems down the right though their full-back Halliday, who broke forward again there before sending across into the box for Cook.

The striker threw himself at the ball but couldn’t quite reach it.

Sunderland have been sloppy in possession so far.

More good play from Bradford saw them work the ball to the right and Halliday’s cross had to be dealt with by Carney.

The Sunderland goalkeeper took a whack from Bradford striker Cook but managed to clear the ball.

Some appeals for a penalty from the Sunderland players after Clarke found himself in the box and tried to take on two Bradford players.

He went to ground but nothing was given.

8’ Decent start from Bradford

The hosts look up for this one in the early exchanges.

They have already had a few neat passages of play and worked the ball into the final third a couple of times.

Sunderland have just won the first corner of the match.
