'Best present imaginable; Merry Dreyfusmas!': Sunderland fans rejoice as club near takeover deal

The 23-year-old is set to purchase a majority stake in the Black Cats from Stewart Donald, with only EFL approval remaining.

Once the deal is sanctioned, Louis-Dreyfus will become the club’s chairman and will have a controlling interest in the Wearsiders.

And fans were delighted with what many called an early Christmas present. Here’s what they were saying on social media:
