Sunderland will travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup quarter-final this evening - and we’ll have all the action covered.

While promotion from League One is the priority this season for Lee Johnson’s side, the Black Cats have beaten Championship teams in Blackpool and QPR to reach the last eight of the cup, and will be backed by over 5,000 away fans.

Arsenal have also been taking the competition seriously as Mikel Areteta looks to win his second trophy as Gunners boss after leading his side to a FA Cup triumph in 2020.

17’ GOAL! Arsenal lead (Nketiah)

They had been getting closer and now it’s 1-0.

Odegaard’s free-kick was headed behind by Stewart and from the following corner Arsenal scored.

Holding won a free header after getting away from Wright. Gooch and Burge managed to keep the ball out but Nketiah was well placed to convert.

1-0.

That was a let off!

Arsenal almost scored as Tavares cut in from the right and sent a low cross into the box.

Embleton connected with it and sent the ball towards his own goal before it rebounded off the crossbar.

11’ Sunderland causing problems

Sunderland have been solid so far and the side has stayed compact in the early exchanges.

Arsenal have delivered some crosses into the box but Wright and Flanagan have cleared the danger.

Winchester then broke forward on the right, yet his low cross didn’t beat the first man.

Sunderland managed to win the ball high up the pitch there as Stewart was released through on goal.

He was always chasing the ball and tangled legs with Elneny. There were some faint penalty appeals but nothing was given.

As expected, Sunderland have started in a 3-5-1-2 system with Winchester on the right and Gooch on the left.

The Black Cats will look to hit Arsenal on the break and managed to register a shot on target through Pritchard.

The effort was straight at Leno.

Lee Johnson speaking to Sky Sports

“I believe in my players, I really do and I think we can be a threat for anybody.

“We’ve got speed up top and three midfielders with really good ball manipulation who can handle the ball.

“The boys are going to have to work extremely hard for each other but if they do I trust us in terms of that play in possession to go and be dangerous.”
