While promotion from League One is the priority this season for Lee Johnson’s side, the Black Cats have beaten Championship teams in Blackpool and QPR to reach the last eight of the cup, and will be backed by over 5,000 away fans.

Arsenal have also been taking the competition seriously as Mikel Areteta looks to win his second trophy as Gunners boss after leading his side to a FA Cup triumph in 2020.

73’ Two more changes for Arsenal

Gabriel and Martinelli are coming on for White and Odegaard.

69’ Arsenal comfortable

Xhaka’s introduction has given Arsenal even more control in midfield.

They are passing the ball around with confidence now.

64’ Burge denies Odegaard

Hume is really struggling to cope with Pepe on the flank.

The Arsenal winger beat his man again before cutting the ball back to Odegaard, whose shot was saved by Burge.

58’ GOAL! Arsenal have a fourth (Nketiah again!)

That’s a hat-trick for Nketiah, and what a finish that was!

Arsenal cut Sunderland open again after Odegaard threaded the ball through to Pepe on the right, and the winger breezed past Hume.

Pepe’s low cross was flicked past Burge by Nketiah who was free in the box.

Granit Xhaka has also come on for the hosts in place of Balogun.

4-1.

55’ Embleton hits the post

After being caught out defensively, Embleton almost scored an excellent goal there.

The midfielder cut in from the right after space opened up and curled his shot onto the far post.

Leno wasn’t happy with his defenders.

Sunderland have also switched to a 4-4-2 system following Broadhead’s withdrawal with Embleton and Gooch on the flanks.

49’ GOAL! Arsenal have a third (Nketiah)

It’s going to be tough for Sunderland now.

This time Arsenal’s attack came down the left as Tavares beat Embleton and had time to deliver a cross.

Nketiah arrived late to run in front of Doyle and prod the ball past Burge.

3-1.

Not again.

Ross Stewart just went down after colliding with Balogun.

Thankfully the SAFC striker is back on his feet now.

We are also hearing Nathan Broadhead has suffered a hamstring injury.
