Sunderland's head coach Tony Mowbray is already being eyed for another job should he leave Wearside, according to fresh reports.

The former Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers manager took over from Alex Neil earlier this season and guided Sunderland to the play-offs.

However, Luton Town in the semi-final second-leg proved to be a bridge too far for Mowbray's young side as their 2-1 advantage from the home tie was wiped out at Kenilworth Road.

After the game, Mowbray admitted that his future at Sunderland may be uncertain with Football League World now reporting that Southampton are eyeing the 59-year-old.

The Saints will play in the Championship next season after a disastrous campaign in the Premier League with the report claiming that Mowbray and  Swansea boss Russell Martin are on Southampton's "radar", with "prospective appointments to be asked to recommend signings."

"Let’s wait and see. Do I want to be here next season? I do, yes. But let’s wait and see how it goes, and what the summer brings.

“I don’t know what will happen next. I’ll just get on with it. I’ve got a contract so I’ll just keep going. I only mention that off the speculation off recent weeks. Let’s wait and see.

"Modern-day football clubs can do what they want. I’m pretty relaxed. I feel like I’ve come in here and managed to work with these young players, create a team environment that has done alright despite huge losses of some very important footballers."

Mowbray also said he was proud of his players and the club's supporters despite their semi-final heartache.
