The winger joined the Addicks on loan from Sunderland in the early hours of deadline day, with a loan move formalised at 12:30am on Friday.

But the 33-year-old - who was informed in December that he was no longer part of Phil Parkinson’s plans - was an unused substitute as Lee Bowyer’s side beat Barnsley 2-1.

McGeady could make his first appearance for Charlton when they head to Stoke City next weekend.

Meanwhile, it was a productive day for Sunderland loanees Jack Baldwin and Jack Diamond - who both helped their temporary sides to crucial points away from home.

Baldwin played the full 90 minutes as Salford City left it late to claim a 1-1 draw at Port Vale - with Tom Elliott’s header cancelling-out Cameron Burgess’ own goal.

Diamond and Harrogate, meanwhile, claimed a 1-1 draw at Aldershot Town. The Sunderland youngster played 52 minutes of the clash which saw Lloyd Kerry’s second half strike claim a point on the road for Simon Weaver’s men.

Jordan Hunter was also involved in a draw, as South Shields shared the spoils with Stalybridge Celtic.

The full-back played the entire game as Shields twice surrendered the lead in North Yorkshire - as they dropped some crucial points in the promotion race.

Lee Connelly was an unused substitute as Alloa Athletic sprung a shock and claimed a 1-1 with Inverness Caledonian Thistle - with Alloa having led for large parts of the clash.
