The Black Cats are still keen to strengthen further before the window closes on January 31 and have been linked with a vast array of potential recruits in the weeks leading up to deadline day. But who has been rumoured to be moving to the Stadium of Light - and what happened to them? We take a look at every player to be linked with Sunderland over the last month:
The Black Cats number one target, there has been no shortage of speculation linking the Northern Irish striker with a switch to the Stadium of Light. Four offers have been submitted, but no joy yet.
Mooted as a potential alternative to Grigg, the Scot finds himself out of favour at Reading after a move from Coventry in the summer. He fits the profile of the poacher Jack Ross is eyeing but hasnt been prolific in League One.

The Birmingham City striker was tentatively linked with a move to Wearside after an impressive loan spell at Kilmarnock. The wide forward has since gone on to join Aberdeen.
After a goal-laden spell at Exeter City in League One, Stockley was hot property in the January window. Portsmouth were also linked with the striker, who eventually joined Preston North End.
Another player who has drawn plenty of interest is Shankland, whose goalscoring exploits have seen Swansea City cast an eye over the Ayr United frontman. He has ruled out a move, though.
Impressive against the Black Cats for Bradford City earlier this season, Paynes initial loan spell was up earlier this month. Reports claimed he was eyed by Sunderland before penning an extension at Valley Parade.
A youngster at Arsenal, attacking midfielder Willock was one of the first names to be linked with Sunderland. His impressive form for the Gunners seems to have ruled-out a January exit, though.
The Sheffield United centre back was linked with Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers after impressing at Blackpool, but now looks set to remain with the Seasiders for the rest of the season.
With defensive reinforcements a priority early in the window, it was no surprise to see another centre back in Hendry linked with the Stadium of Light. This one always looked to be a non-starter, though.
This wasnt the first - nor will it likely be the last - time that the Celtic winger is linked with a reunion with Jack Ross, who managed Morgan at St Mirren. As of yet though, a switch to Sunderland has not been sealed.
This one was always going to be ambitious! With Defoe made available for a temporary exit this month, many had hoped that a switch to Sunderland could be on the card. Instead, Rangers was the strikers destination.
