St Joseph's boys are up for the cup

A Murton primary school has reached the regional finals of the Danone Nations Cup, the world's biggest football tournament for 10­-12 year olds.

St Joseph’s RC Primary School successfully progressed from the county knockout rounds of the tournament and will now compete in the regional finals, which are being held on March 19.

The finals, being played at Cramlington Learning Village, will see the school take on schools from across the North in a bid to reach the national final later this year.

First held in 2000, the Danone Nations Cup sees 2.5million children worldwide take part in the competition each year, with 3,000 schools competing in the English leg run by the English Schools’ Football Association.

Former Tottenham, Liverpool and England centre back John Scales, ambassador of the tournament, said: “I am so proud to have so closely supported the Danone Nations Cup for more than 10 years now. I would like to wish St Joseph’s RC Primary School the best of luck in the regional finals.”
