Will Grigg struggled on his home debut for Sunderland

Our man Phil Smith has dished out his player ratings from the stalemate at the Stadium of Light, and it's a mixed back across the board after more dropped points on home soil. Scroll down and click through the pages to see who shone - and struggled - for the Black Cats against Blackpool:

Had precious little to do but had no chance of stopping Armand Gnanduillets fine drive from distance. 6
Brought back into the side at right back but lacked the attacking threat he offered during his previous stint in that role. Some good defensive moments in a steady display. 6
Deserved his goal. Play on the ball can frustrate but he kept trying to make something happen and should have a brilliant assist when Grigg somehow fired wide. Defender well. 7
Has really settled into life at Sunderland and looked very resolute again here. Won everything in the air. 6
Steady defensively but struggled to make an impact going forward. Went off late on with what appeared to be a knock. 6
Offered composure and poise from the base of midfield. Another fine corner saw Sunderland score another set piece goal. 6
Started brightly but couldnt offer enough quality in the final third. 5

Dropped into central midfield to improve Sunderlands drive going forward but was ineffectual. Looked fortunate to avoid giving a penalty away early in the second half before being replaced. 5
Caused so many problems with his direct running into the channels. Just lacking the final moment of quality. 6
So often the biggest attacking threat for Sunderland, was completely off the boil here. Nothing fell for him and gave it away too often. 4
Provides welcome variety in the way he plays off the shoulder, but missed two glorious chances to get his side back to winning ways. 4
Another decent showing off the bench, linking up the play well and providing a focal point. 6
A frustrating cameo from a player who showed promise on his first couple of Sunderland appearances. Created little. 5
Little time to make an impact. N/A
