Peterlee Sunday League: Lowerson and Taylor the heroes in Easington Lane cup shock

Lane, second-bottom in Division One and newly-relegated from the top flight, thoroughly deserved their 3-1 victory after a superb all-round team performance.

Ryan Taylor led the way with a fine brace, with Kevin Wear also netting and keeper Antony Lowerson producing a man-of-the-match display.

Peter Crawford hit Catholic Club’s consolation, with Scott Brown their top performer.

Thomas Bott capped his magnificent all-round display with a brilliant hat-trick as Easington HMS Victory moved the third round, winning 3-0 at Hetton Fox and Hounds.

Joe Taboun hit four goals for Easington Welfare as they hammered Acre Rigg Celtic 9-1 in the John & Pat McManus Memorial Cup.

Man of the match Brian Smith, Jordan Williams, Jay Jobson, James Pittam and sub Andrew Turner also got in on the act, while Graham Hornsby fired Rigg’s reply.

Lewis McGeoch’s clinical hat-trick paved the way for Shotton Comrades to mcomfortably beat Murton Colliery 5-1 away.

Bradley Beeston and sub Craig Williams also notched, with Barry Frost grabbing the hosts’ goal.

Horden Cricket Club moved into the Second Division Cup semi-finals.

Daniel Gething’s hat-trick, along with efforts from star man Ali Shah and Shaun Bentley, saw off newcomers Grangetown WMC 5-2. Rob Cummings and Josh Wilde hit the consolations.

Much-changed Dawdon Welfare Park side beat Seaham The George 5-3 in an entertaining derby to regain top spot in the Premier Division, albeit only on goal difference from Peterlee Catholic Club.

Craig Price (2), star man Kyle Middleton, Robbie Bird and Marc Taylor guided Dawdon home, with man of the match Ryan Temple, Adam Wallace and Adam Wilson responding.

Horden CW Supporters Club were held 1-1 by Easington CIU in a tight duel. James Connor hit Horden’s goal, while Rob Huntley was on target for CIU. Ricky Ramsay stood out for Horden.

Second-top Easington Southside had their work cut out before edging home 3-2 against Wingate Grange in the First Division.

Matt Billyard, Josh Lincoln and John Brown came up trumps for Southside, with Michael Lee, Grange’s star man, hitting both responses. Michael Taylor stood out for Southside.

Wingate Plough Inn had no answer to the fire power of third-top Seaham Marlborough, who ran out comfortable 4-0 winners.

Ryan Martin (2), man of the match Anthony Watson and Chris Dormand struck for Marlborough, with Jamie Robinson starring for Plough.

Two goals from Allan Curl saw South Hetton Cricket Club home 2-1 against Hetton Social in a close-fought clash. Ian Morrell shone for the cricketers.

Leaders Peterlee Oaklands were made to fight for a 3-2 victory against bottom club Murton New Hesledon.

Seaham Parkside consolidated top spot in Division Two with a crushing 6-1 defeat of Haswell Oddfellows Arms.

A strike from Scott French was by no means enough for Haswell as Kevin Price notched a brilliant hat-trick to inspire the hosts.

Michael Kennedy (2) and Andrew McGhin also netted, with Matthew Mustard star man. Carl Stephenson shone for Oddfellows.

Dave Kember was in superb form for Peterlee Hearts, hitting four goals in a 5-3 win over Peterlee Central Club as they rose to second place.

Steven Fairless completed the scoring, with Tom Bell, Michael Bayles and Ashley Williams responding.

New Seaham Westlea secured only their second league win, beating Sherburn United 2-1.

Stephen Squire and Mark Cooper struck, with Ethan McGhin star man. Damian Price shone in goal for Sherburn, whose marksman was James Brett.
