Ivy struck first when Alan Neal rose to power home a header from a pinpoint corner.

When Steven Finn took advantage of a slip by the otherwise impressive Trimdon keeper, it was game over at 3-0. Cleugh followed up his own shot, initially well saved, to calmly chip the rebound into the net for a fourth.

A disputed penalty gave Trimdon some consolation, but Ivy continued to dominate and Neal capped an imperious performance by stretching out a telescopic leg to poke home the fifth.

Colonel Prior lost 3-1 at home to Pelton Newfield and Oddfellows Arms exited 1-0 at home to Durham County Strollers.

Rolls-Royce saw their Third Division Echo Cup dreams dashed in a 3-2 extra-time defeat at Wallsend Winstons.

On a pitch which produced an unpredictable run of the ball, on a windy day, Winstons took a deserved lead on 13 minutes when an astute first-time pass by Arnott put Richardson in on goal to slam past the Rolls keeper.

Five minutes later, Rolls levelled from their first opportunity, converting a penalty after exposing a sleeping defence.

Rolls then stormed ahead on 21 minutes, the striker sidestepping the keeper to slot home.

Early in the second half, Winstons’ Slater equalised after Rolls failed to clear a corner.

That took the tie to extra time, and Winstons won it when Mauchline’s header across goal was despairingly converted into an own goal by Andy Laidler’s outstretched leg. Late pressure failed to bring a leveller as the hosts held on to reach the quarter-finals.

The Philadelphia led at half-time, thanks to a Jones goal, but found it difficult against the wind on the restart as Hartlepool Stag & Monkey hit back to secure a 2-1 victory, with two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second period.

Blue House won 3-1 at battling strugglers Boldon Colliery Tavern, while Willow Pond romped to a 5-0 success at Sedgefield Black Lion and Oddies outgunned Woodhorn Lane 3-0.

Washington JFC Biddick Inn succumbed 5-4 after extra time in a thriller at Richmond Town, while Houghton Cricket lost 3-1 to Hedworthfield Red Hackle and Wingate Cons pipped Redcar Old Boys 2-1 away.

In the Second Division Ironside Cup, Mill View SC won through an epic tie 6-5 after extra time against Durham Stonebridge.

Peterlee Helford exited 5-2 at North Shields Pineapple, while Thornley Celtic beat Darsley Park 3-1.

Red House WMC put up a fight before losing 3-0 to leaders Hartlepool Touchdown in the Premier Division, the opener coming with a fierce 25-yarder.

Penshaw Catholic Club missed the chance to leapfrog Hebburn Town into ninth place when they were held 1-1 by the Tynesiders.

Bottom club South Shields lost 2-1 to third-top Cramlington Burton House.

Washington Sandpiper maintained their 14-match unbeaten run with a 6-2 home win against Dubmire to move second in Division One.

Without a game for six weeks, Sandpiper went ahead when winger Steve Jones ran from halfway and calmly side footed home.

The prolific Gary Allison headed home a great Keith Gamble cross for 2-0, then Gamble thumped in from the edge of the box within a minute of the start of the second half.

Dubmire never stopped working and got their reward when Reece Davis pulled a goal back in a goalmouth scramble. But Sandpiper came straight back and scored two quick goals, a Gary Allison header and the usual poached goal from Justin Kirtley.

Dubmire replied with the goal of the game, David Firth hitting a screamer from the edge of the box to make it 5-2. But Allison had the last word with his hat-trick marker, powering home a left-foot strike from range.

Fourth-placed Easington CIU were out of sorts in a 1-1 draw with Milbourne Arms.

They went behind after 20 minutes and lost their keeper Eddie Guy to injury, Kenny Lynch having to take over in goal. CIU picked up in the second half and they equalised 10 minutes from time, Anthony Banks drilling home from 12 yards after the keeper made a great save.

Weamouth CW dropped to third place after being held to a 3-3 draw by visitors Heaton Stannington.

Seaham regained top spot in Division Two, beating Hylton CW 3-1 to go three points clear of Thornley Celtic, albeit having played four games more.
