Wilson will miss the final three games of the season after suffering a hamstring injury in last week’s 4-2 win over Leicester City The striker – who scored twice at the King Power Stadium – has pledged to come back “stronger and hungrier” from the injury.

Bruce, for his part, believes, with hindsight, that Wilson – who had a spell out with another hamstring injury earlier this year – should have been taken off before the end of the Premier League game.

“Thankfully, it’s not a bad as the last one was,” United’s head coach told BBC Radio Newcastle. “I kick myself, really. In hindsight, I should’ve taken him off before that. It’s his other side. We’d expect it to be two or three weeks.”
