This is when Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin could return for Newcastle United

Relegation-threatened Newcastle United take on Jose Mourinho’s side at St James’s Park on Sunday. Saint-Maximin and Wilson are close to returns from their respective groin and hamstring injuries ahead of the Premier League fixture.

Saint-Maximin, however, is ahead of Wilson in his comeback.

Asked if Saint-Maximin could be involved, head coach Steve Bruce said: “Could be, yeah. We’ve still got two days to train. He came through a big training session 48 hours ago, so we hope (he’ll be involved). He’s a bit more advanced than Callum is. Yeah, we hope he can take some part.”

Asked if Wilson could return against Tottenham, Bruce added: “I wouldn’t have thought so.”

The April 11 fixture against Burnley at Turf Moor could be “more realistic” for Wilson, who has been sidelined since limping off in the club’s 3-2 win over Southampton on February 6. United haven't won since then.

"It’s still a couple of days before the Tottenham one, and, you know, he’s been in and around training all week, but it looks as if it's more realistic, yes,” said Bruce, who lost midfielder Isaac Hayden to a season-ending knee injury before the international break.

Wilson, signed from Bournemouth last summer for £20million, is the club’s leading scorer with 10 Premier League goals.

Newcastle are 17th in the table – and two points above the relegation zone – ahead of the fixture following a run of two wins from 18 games.
