Steve Bruce 'keeping tabs' on former Sunderland striker

Former Sunderland striker Mikael Mandron is a target for Newcastle United, according to a report.

Steve Bruce was at Gresty Road on Saturday with his son Alex to watch Crewe Alexandra’s 2-0 win over League One leaders Peterborough United.

Peterborough winger Siriki Dembele has been suggested as a possible target for former Sunderland manager Bruce, who will looking to strengthen his squad in January’s transfer window.

However, Football Insider claim that United’s head coach was there to watch Mandron, who spent five years at Sunderland before joining non-league club Eastleigh in 2016. Mandron went on to have spells at Wigan Athletic, Colchester United and Gillingham.

Mandron has scored six goals so far this season. The 26-year-old joined Sunderland aged 16 after coming through the ranks at French club Boulogne-Billancourt. Mandron signed a 12-month contract at Crewe in the summer after leaving Gillingham.
