The forward spent last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, catching the eye under Gary Monk at Hillsborough.

That form has prompted a host of interest from second tier clubs who are keen to take Murphy on loan – with the 25-year-old viewed as a cost-effective option at a time where many clubs are tightening the purse strings.

And according to TeamTalk, Steve Bruce is willing to allow the former Norwich City youngster to head out on loan again this season.

Nottingham Forest and Derby County are both said to be pushing to strike a deal for the wideman, while Middlesbrough and Stoke City have also been credited with taking an interest in Murphy.

Former club Wednesday remain in the chase, too.

A lifelong Newcastle fan, Murphy has struggled for regular first-team football since being signed by Rafa Benitez in a £12million deal back in 2017.

But speaking last year, he said he still views his long-term future at St James’s Park.

"I still very much see my future being at Newcastle United,” said Murphy, speaking to the Mirror.

“It's down to me and the performances I put in."

Murphy is one of a number of players – including Fabian Schar, Dwight Gayle and Isaac Hayden – who are set to their contracts expire in the summer of 2021.
