Saint-Maximin, under contract at St James’s Park until 2025, has been a key figure on the pitch since joining from Nice last year in a £16.5million deal.
The 23-year-old, however, has ambitions to play European football – and his future will depend on the club’s “development”.
"For my part, everything will depend on this development,” Saint-Maximin told sport.fr. If the club is developing well, and it’s in line with my desires, staying is a possibility. Afterwards, if things don't turn out like that, obviously the question of leaving will arise.
"Now we’re in a huge league with a lot of big teams, so being able to play in Europe and the Europa League would be really great. The Champions League is a big dream, every footballer wants to play it. It's a great, historic club that has a lot of dreams, and there is everything around it to achieve this goal."
