The Daily Mail understands Steve Bruce’s side are preparing an £8million bid for the Norwegian international as he enters the final year of his deal.

The Hoops value Ajer around the £25m mark but his contract situation gives the Magpies a chance of negotiating a bargain.

Norwich City and AC Milan are also chasing his signature but the 23-year-old is said to view Newcastle as an ideal step up in his career.

Newcastle ‘kept informed’ over Max Aarons future

Newcastle are among the clubs monitoring Max Aarons’ situation at Norwich City.

That’s according to Goal, who claims the Magpies, Arsenal, Manchester City, Everton, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Leicester are all keeping tabs on the promising right-back.

Aarons was subject to interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich last year but stayed to help fire the Canaries back to the top-flight at the first attempt.

However, Aarons is set to attract fresh approaches this summer with Mikel Arteta’s Gunners showing the most intent amid uncertainty surrounding Hector Bellerin’s future.

It is claimed Daniel Farke’s side value the 21-year-old at £30m.

Rob Lee warns Newcastle over Joe Willock’s price tag

Former Newcastle United icon Rob Lee believes Joe Willock’s reported £20million is “too much”.

Steve Bruce wants to explore the possibility of signing the 21-year-old on a permanent basis following a successful loan spell so far.

Willock has played 10 times and scored four goals – three of which have come in consecutive substitute appearances against Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Liverpool.

Arsenal could look to cash in on their academy graduate this summer but Lee has warned the Magpies about paying over the odds.

He told Football FanCast: “I think for what he’s done in the game £20 million is too much, but that’s the price you have to pay sometimes. But I would say that at £15 million, we buy him.

“He has potential to get better and he will improve the team straight away, which is good but people are starting to demand astronomical prices for average players.”
