The 21-year-old midfielder is set to be allowed to leave Bayern Munich with L’Équipé reporting that Premier League newcomers Leeds United are in pole position having lodged a bid and opened talks on personal terms.

They also claim Newcastle have shown an interest in the midfielder, though it looks increasingly likely he will be heading to Yorkshire with advanced talks reported to be underway.

The transfer window for international deals closes next Monday, though clubs will still be able to do domestic deals until October 16.

Speaking earlier this month, Steve Bruce revealed he has at least five first-team players training with the club’s under-23 squad, away from the main group.

And it is imperative some of those players leave, before he can add the two players he wants before the end of the transfer window on Monday, October 5.

"We can't just keep collecting them (players),” said Bruce when asked about whether he needs to sell to buy in the remainder of this window.

"We've got five or six training with the under-23s.

“It's not going to be healthy at all for anyone so that's got to be part of the remit between now and the end of the window.

“We'll see. As I've said, I've been delighted with what we've done. We've brought in four or five new players and I'm sure they will be really good additions to the squad. At this particular moment, only two have gone so we have to try and make room and let others move on as well.”
