The 20-year-old - who joined the Magpies' Academy at the age of 12 - has signed a new deal to keep him at the club until the summer of 2022.

Cass, currently on loan at Hartlepool United, is yet to make his senior debut for Newcastle.

He told NUFC TV: "I'm delighted. It's everything a local lad dreams of to sign a new contract with Newcastle United. I'm thankful for the club, staff and players that have helped me get to this position.

"Personally, I want to try and get around 35-40 games under my belt (at Hartlepool) which will set me in good stead for next season and hopefully closing the gap on the first-team. As a homegrown player, my dream is to play in front of 52,000 supporters."

Cass joined Pools on loan and has played 16 consecutive games, with Pools currently sitting in second place.
