Inter Milan striker on Newcastle United's radar with Miguel Almiron coming under fire

Newcastle United have reportedly been scouting Brazilian Copa Libertadores hero Gabriel Barbosa.

According to reports in Italy, Barbosa - who scored twice to win the Copa for Flamengo last weekend – is interesting United as well as Premier League rivals Crystal Palace and West Ham.

The Brazil international is currently on loan in his homeland from Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, another South American has come under fire for his poor show in Monday night’s defeat at Aston Villa.

Miguel Almiron's ‘Premier League quality’ has been questioned by Sky Sports' pundit and former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher.

He said: “When I watch Almiron, he almost looks like he’s on fast forward.

“We’re laughing because in some ways we like what we’re seeing in terms of the burst of pace, you think it’s a nightmare for defenders, but I do think it has come to the stage now where Almiron has to come out the team

“In some ways I feel a bit sorry for him, I felt that when he came in under Rafa he was trying too hard, but now you’re getting to the stage where you are worried if there is actually enough quality there to be in this team and in the Premier League.”

Elsewhere, Steve Bruce has provided a concerning update on injured Matt Ritchie.

And finally, Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu.
