'He's the one' - Sky pundit names player who can transform Newcastle's fortunes
Joleon Lescott has claimed that Allan Saint-Maximin can be the man to transform Newcastle United’s fortunes this season.
The Magpies are on a dire run at the moment, and haven’t picked up a win in any of their last nine matches across all competitions.
This weekend will see Steve Bruce take his side to former club Aston Villa, who have enjoyed a hugely positive first half of the season.
Saturday’s game could also mark the comeback of Saint-Maximin, who has been absent from the Toon Army’s squad since the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at the end of the November.
The winger has been sidelined for an extended period as he recovered from the after effects of a battle with Covid-19, but Bruce has suggested that he will be involved against the Villans in some capacity.
Reacting to the news on Sky Sports’ Football Show, former Villa defender Joleon Lescott said: “The nature of Newcastle is to stay in the league. They look like they're going to do that again this season under his [Bruce’s] guidance.
“The form and the recent performances coincide with Saint-Maximin not being available.
"He’s their star player in terms of possession. He’s the one who creates moments out of nothing.
"I know fans aren’t at the stadium, but he can lift fans out of their seats.
"Evidently, he’s the guy to go to when you’re under pressure. He can relieve that pressure by taking the ball for a run and going past three or four players.
"Once they get him back in the team, I’m sure they will be a different outfit.”
