Long before his stunning hat-trick for Portugal against Switzerland, Ramos had been tipped with a move to England. Newcastle United and Wolves were linked with the striker in the summer window, although neither club followed through with their interest.

After starring for Portugal, Benfica will reportedly hold out for a fee that meets Ramos’ release clause, believed to be around the £100million mark. This fee would be a huge gamble on a player that has just one and a half seasons of regular first team football behind him.

Newcastle’s purchase of Alexander Isak in the summer has likely cooled their interest whilst the current price tag will block Wolves’ hopes of landing the 21 year old. Ramos’ current form for club and country has reportedly alerted Arsenal and Manchester United over his availability as both look to strengthen their attacking options - a requirement that has only been reinforced at the Emirates Stadium following news Gabriel Jesus will be out of action for a number of weeks.

However, following the news regarding Jesus, ex-Arsenal defender Emmanuel Petit believes that the Gunners shouldn’t rush into a deal for the untested Ramos, instead telling Football Betting that they should look at the Premier League for the Brazilian’s replacement: “I'm so sad for Gabriel Jesus, honestly. He's been doing a great job for Arsenal. I love watching him smile on the pitch and he has fit perfectly with Arteta and Arsenal.

“They need reinforcements in the transfer market. There was talk about Goncalo Ramos and although he scored a hat-trick against Switzerland, I think it's too early.

“He didn't have any impact against Morocco. No headers, no runs, no hold up.

“He disappeared on the pitch and I think he's a good player, he's doing a good job at Benfica but he's not my first option. Zaha from Palace, Saint-Maximin from Newcastle or Pulisic from Chelsea would be my three they should target.

“Pulisic will fit perfectly with what Arteta wants, he loves playing one-touch football with good movement and he lives in London so it will be an easy switch.”
