Rose needed to play games ahead of Euro 2020. However, the 29-year-old doesn’t believe he is yet playing to his potential at St James's Park.

Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle, Rose said: “I feel great that I’m getting a run of games, (but) I still don’t feel as if I’m playing to my potential. I expect a lot more from myself, I know the manager expects a lot more from me.”

United head coach Steve Bruce, however, believes Rose – who had a loan spell at Sunderland early in his career – and fellow loanee Nabil Bentaleb will get sharper week by week. Bruce said: “I do believe they’ll be better for the games. They'll be fine.”
