This was the defiant message from Norman Stephens, who has returned as chairman and secretary.

He said: “When I heard the other day that the future of the club was in doubt, I immediately stepped back in.

“I was chairman for 16 years and there was no way I could sit back and let the club go to the wind.

“It might be difficult, but we’ll get there.

“In football, you are up at the top one day and at the bottom the next. You’ve got to take the rough with the smooth and we will get out of this mess.”

The Colliers are now searching for a ground on which to play their last six home games.

“If a club can help us out, I would be very grateful. We’ve got to make sure the club survives – after all, there has been senior football in the village for more than 100 years,” added Stephens.

Meanwhile, Stephens confirmed he has launched an appeal to the Court of Appeal in London against the decision made recently by Newcastle Crown Court, which precipitated the present crisis when the ground was handed back to Horden Parish Council.

Stephens can be contacted on 07873 120436 or by email at [email protected]
