Mike Williamson’s side were set to host table-topping Gloucester City on Saturday before travelling to Leamington next weekend.

However, both games will now be rearranged for later in the season and the Heed players and coaching staff will spend the next 14 days in self-isolation as a “precautionary measure”.

A club statement released on Thursday afternoon read: “Gateshead Football Club can confirm that upcoming fixtures against Gloucester City and Leamington have been postponed due to a positive COVID-19 test.

“A member of the club’s first-team playing staff returned a positive test after displaying symptoms on Wednesday.

“The club contacted the National League for guidance on the matter, and the decision has been taken to postpone Saturday’s home game against Gloucester and our trip to Leamington on October 31.

“All first-team players have now been advised to self-isolate for 14 days as a precautionary measure and the club is following stringent COVID-19 guidelines as well as liaising with the National League.
