Family fun day marks football club’s promotion

An exciting day of family fun is to be held to celebrate the success of a Washington football club.

Nissan Leisure is to host a community family festival on Sunday, August 9, to celebrate the promotion of Washington football club, The Mechanics, into the prestigious first division Ebac Northern league.

Proceeds from the event will go to Miss Sunderland 2015’s nominated charity Beauty With A Purpose and Washington football club’s season costs.

Activities will kick-off at 10am when more than 50 traders at the summer market open their stalls at the Washington Road site.

The Deputy Mayor of Sunderland and the Mayoress will open the main stage at 1pm where local celebrity from The Voice, Olivia Lawson, and top North East band The Ambassadors will be headlining.

You will also be able to meet Miss Sunderland organiser Jodie Breeds, from 24 carat hair and beauty, and Miss Sunderland 2015 Hannah Rose.

Activities will include a bouncy castle village, go-karts, speed cage, climbing wall, AMF bowling alley, various demonstrations and rides, some of which are free.There will also be reasonable charges for bar drinks and BBQ products.

Events sponsors Benfield Motor Group will showcase an exciting range of Nissan cars and will be taking along an exciting simulator challenge as part of Benfield’s support for the Nissan GB athlete programme.

Natalina Sutherland, brand manager, Benfield Motor Group, said: “Benfield are delighted to team up with Nissan Leisure, Miss Sunderland and Washington FC to sponsor this family day celebration, which will also help raise much needed funds for charity.” 

Also on display will be a number of top brand Motorbike clubs and the local TA, police and fire brigade will there too. Offers from other clubs and organisations wishing to take part would be welcome.

Nissan Leisure general manager and event director Gary Collin said: “We are hoping that people will come in their droves to celebrate Washington FC’s and Hannah Rose’s success ,which is amazing news for the city.”
