SpecStation opens in Sunderland: Wide range of frames & same day express service for your prescription glasses

SpecStation is a brand new site in the Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland.
The store opens on Saturday, June 21 – with a ribbon cutting by the Mayor, goodie bags, refreshments and some very special offers not to be missed.
Husband and wife team Harry and Pav, who have over a decade of experience in the world of optometry between them, are the owners of Spec Station. And they can’t wait to show off their fabulous range of frames and super-convenient service.
With lots of frames to choose from – from the quirky and fun to premium designs – they have worked hard to ensure there is something for everyone. A warm welcome, friendly expert advice, and expert lens-making awaits, and with single vision lenses ready in under an hour, there’s no waiting around.
All you need to do is take your up-to-date prescription to the store, try on glasses from the wide range of plastic, metal and titanium until you find a pair to suit you, and then leave the rest to the SpecStation team. You can pop out for a coffee or finish your shopping and your specs will be ready to wear.
Optometrist Harry explained: “We know how debilitating it can be, when you need a new pair of glasses and you might have to wait weeks for them to be made.
“Our aim is to ensure an easy, personalised eyewear service for all our customers so it’s fast, face-to-face and convenient. We want to make sure nobody is waiting around for their glasses and in most cases will have them ready within the hour.”
Pav, an optician, says they already have a wide range of frames in store, and they have been working with a brand which recycles marine plastics to create frames which have a traceable code to show the origin of the plastic in the UK.

Discount on frames and lenses
For the opening (up to July 16) all single vision pairs will have 40% off and 35% off varifocals, across all orders. Plus the first 30 customers to place an order will receive a free accessory kit worth £15 on top.
Focus on frames
They stock plastic frames, many of which are bio-acetate, which makes them recyclable and more environmentally friendly. There’s a wide range of classic metal frames too and lightweight titanium frames, which offer a hardwearing and hypoallergenic option.
High-tech spec for lenses
The choice of lens is up to you – they can be tinted to give you sunglasses, they can be polarised, you could opt for a blue light filter to reduce eyestrain and fatigue if you spend a lot of time on screens and digital devices, or you could go for the latest spec of transition lenses.
“The transition lenses we use are GenS, which only launched in April and are much faster reacting than other lenses,” Pav explained. The GenS transitions are ideal for those who want protection from sunlight but don’t want to keep swapping glasses for sunnies. Not only that but they come in some cool colours.
“The latest is ruby,” said Pav “But there are also Sapphire, Amethyst and several other colour lenses too – they offer some really interesting and trendy styles.”
