Leaving college or university or returning to work? Gain valuable experience in the tech sector in Sunderland
There are key moments in life when we could all do with a little extra help to make that leap to the next stage. Leaving education to enter the world of work, or returning to work after a break are prime examples.
One thing which could help give you the confidence, and the skills, to take the next step is to gain some valuable, structured, work experience to ease that transition.
At Sunderland Software City they know just how vital work experience is so they are offering the kind of experience that will kick-start a future to be excited about – it’s called Tech Talent X.
Sunderland Software City aims to support and grow the North East tech sector by helping people explore careers, start businesses and grow their organisations. They do this partly through tailored programmes providing opportunities for individuals and organisations. We asked them to outline a little more about the Tech Talent X programme and what it could do for you.
Who is Tech Talent X for?
The programme aims to teach soon-to-be college or University leavers about the transition between education and working life. We also want to support individuals returning to work, offering a window into how workplaces may have changed whilst you were away.
What is the purpose of it?
To support Sunderland residents to improve their employment chances by providing them with valuable work experience. It will give you first-hand experience in the workplace gaining insights into the skills needed for a particular job. It’s an opportunity to find out whether it is something you might like to do in the future, and will give you increased confidence and employability skills. It’s also the chance to understand the needs of employers and how recruitment works and will give you insights into how your skills and abilities translate into the workplace.
What is the format?
The programme is completely flexible - meaning that participants can join for a length of time that suits them. That could be 2-3 days, a week or longer period of time.
What topics are covered?
Participants will work on in-house projects, ranging from digital marketing, software development and skills programmes. Additionally, they will have opportunities to work with our employer network across diverse sectors, including e-sports, no code, AI, cyber security, and immersive technologies.
Do I get paid?
The scheme is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and supported by Sunderland City Council, Gateshead Council and the University of Sunderland. While the placements are fully funded, this is voluntary work experience (unpaid).
Who can apply?
Tech Talent X is open to Sunderland residents over the age of 18, whether they are just entering work from college or university or looking to return to the workplace and want to update their skills and experience.
