At a time when there are ever-increasing demands on our time and our money, we all want cost-effective, quality dental work without a long wait … and this North East firm might just have the answer.

If you suffer from problems with your teeth or dentures you might think you automatically need a dentist, but that isn’t always the case.

Instead, using a qualified clinical dental technician can often help resolve your problems and make you smile again faster than you might imagine.

And at City Dental in Sunderland, they can offer help within the week.

City Dental

What is a clinical dental technician?

City Dental is run by dental technicians, who set up their own business over 10 years ago, then operating as A-line Dental Services. Colin Caster and Mark Maley, who has carried out more training to become a clinical dental technician, have decades of experience, and set up their own laboratory to craft and create implants, bridges and dentures prescribed by dentists.

Simply put, the dentists do the medical investigations and diagnoses, while the technicians make what is required, such as dentures, crowns, braces and bridges.

While implants themselves need a dentist’s attention at initial consultation, lots of the later work can be done by technicians. That means, for example, repairs or replacements on any devices can be crafted individually for you. This not only saves time, and ultimately money, it allows for a clear conversation between client and technician, offering a ‘right-first-time’ approach.

City Dental has now expanded to employ qualified dentists, dental nurses and hygienists, meaning it offers a complete dental service in Sunderland, whatever your dental needs.

Colin and Mark’s laboratory is the largest independent lab in the North East, and the first to achieve the sought-after ISO quality standard registration.

Implants – what are they and who are they suitable for

A dental implant is a long-term replacement for a missing tooth – unlike bridges or dentures they are attached through the gum to the jaw bone, making them a strong and stable solution. A titanium ‘root’ does the work of a natural root, anchoring the implant in place.

They have many benefits, from restoring the practical ability to chew and the aesthetic restoration of your smile, and just as vitally, shoring up what is known as unretentive dentures. These are dentures that are prone to slippage or movement, usually because they don’t have firm support either side due to tooth loss. An implant can help keep your dentures where you want them, restoring function and confidence.

Whether it is a single missing tooth, a structural support, or replacing a range of teeth, dental implants are generally expected to last between 20 and 30 years.

City Dental

There for you

Colin said: “Of course we encourage people to see their dentist regularly for check-ups and treatment, but when the issue is a structural repair or replacement, or when the dentist refers a person on for implants or dentures, the dental technician comes into their own. We are proud to be able to offer these services at our state of the art surgery in Seaburn, Sunderland.

“We generally have appointments free within a week and can sign-post clients to the right expert to help them. Our on-site denture and implant service makes the process that much faster too.”
